Electronic Recycling Law Changes

Effective January 1, 2019

Since 2009, Secure Processors has followed the guidelines as outlined in the Electronic Waste Recycling Law.  The previous law, has since been overhauled due to its ineffectiveness, and loss/closing of local electronic recyclers leaving most portions of the State without options for recycling their electronics.  Secure Processors was able to weather the storm and the financial burden of paying for the electronic glass recycling (primarily TVs and CRT Monitors) for nine years.  We have provided free glass recycling, as required by law, to Clay County and surrounding counties residential consumers.

The new Consumer Electronics Recycling Act, formally went into effect January 1, 2019.  The new Act allows Electronic Recyclers, independent of a manufacturer e-waste program, to continue to operate, and allows independent electronics recyclers to charge residential consumers for recycling the glass.  Therefore, Secure Processors has implemented a 50 cent per pound charge for electronic glass recycling.  This fee will be used to offset the costs incurred for paying our down stream glass recycling company, transportation for recycling to this company, and our material and labor charges.  These fees may change in the future as determined by market standards.

With the new Act, Secure Processors also had the option to cease accepting residential electronics for recycling.  Rather than see TVs scattered in fields and ditches in Clay County, we chose to continue to accept these materials.  We all share in the responsibility of keeping the local environment clean, and the new law will allow us to remain open, providing a valuable service to the community.

                                    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with regret, that effective November 1, 2020 Clay County Rehabilitation Center/Secure Processors is no longer operating a Community recycling drop off location. No “traditional recycling” items are being accepted at any of our locations. This includes cardboard, cans, time, newspaper, office paper, and magazines. Unfortunately, the commodity prices continue to remain stagnant, and COVID 19 has reduced our manpower to completed the necessary work.

We appreciate the community support over the many years we have provided this service. , free of charge, to Flora, IL and surrounding communities.

Electronic recycling will continue. Residential electronics can be dropped off at the #1 Commercial Dr. location on Fridays, between 8am-2pm. There is a .50/per pound charge for all glass products (TVs and monitors)
